Rapid Electrical 15 years

Rapid celebrates 15 year milestone

7th May 2019

The river Thames was the setting for a celebration cruise to mark the 15th anniversary of Rapid Electrical. Some 150 guests, including staff, customers and suppliers boarded the Elizabethan paddle-steamer for a 3-hour round-trip, organised by the Garfit Group.

Speaking onboard, Rapid’s Managing Director, Nick Edwell, said:

“So many of you have played a part in getting us to this point – my brilliant teams at Colnbrook and Watford, our loyal customers and suppliers but none more so of course than my fantastic family, Fran my wife, our children Lauryn and Tommy whose continued love, belief and support from day one has kept me going and helped me drive the business forwards.

Rapid has certainly come a long way in 15 years. Back in 2004, we started from a small unit in Datchet with a particular focus on servicing the development of Heathrow Terminal 5, so the business was very much geared around the airport. Moving into Colnbrook four years later as we broadened our portfolio into other industry sectors, we expanded into 3 units, which also incorporated SCS Cables. This move meant that we could also support customers across the whole of the South East.

Joining the UK’s longest established buying group, Fegime, gave additional assurance to our growing customer base that they were dealing with a wholesale business of good integrity and professionalism and that’s testament to the dedication and expertise of the whole Rapid team. We now number over 30 strong across both sites and nearly a third of them have been with me for over 10 years.

We continue to be a proud member of Fegime and I’d like to thank all the support we’ve had from both the executive and its members.

It was in 2016 that we spotted an opportunity to extend the Rapid brand into Hertfordshire and Home Counties with the acquisition of Watford Electrical Solutions. This proved to be a very worthwhile decision as our business there has been very well received by customers, to the extent that within two years we found ourselves needing a lot more space. Fortunately, we identified the ideal location, a brand-new 5,000 square foot unit at the Trade City industrial park in central Watford. We fitted it out over the past couple of months and it opened for business on 29th April.

From these strategically well positioned bases, Rapid will continue to service major infrastructure projects in the capital and beyond, which have so far included the construction of Europe’s tallest building, The Shard, Farringdon and Bond Street stations for Crossrail and supplying the build of Astra Zeneca’s global headquarters in Cambridge, that’s due for completion later this year. There’s also some major projects in the pipeline for Watford so watch this space!

Our focus on delivering a first-class range of high quality products very quickly for a fair price has meant that Rapid’s reputation has grown successfully and I am excited at the prospect of fresh opportunities that lie ahead.”
